Hand in Hand for a More Just Sweden: A Call for Political Course Correction and Protection of Multiculturalism

In the aftermath of the horrific attack committed by a mass murderer in Örebro, where students and staff at an adult education center became victims, the pressure from right-wing parties against foreigners temporarily decreased. But soon the harsh attacks on foreigners' values, beliefs, and lifestyles resumed, with recurring demands to ban the hijab for students and teachers, and a revival of racist rhetoric that views foreigners as the root of crime and all problems.

The tiresome tone advocating stricter laws and a uniform culture has returned, forgetting that multiculturalism is one of the cornerstones of modern Swedish society. What hurts most is the continued culture of hatred against Muslims and their faith, which is fueled by Jimmie Åkesson, the leader of the Sweden Democrats (SD), and certain local SD politicians in municipalities. This increases the anxiety and fear that many foreigners live with.

As citizens with foreign backgrounds, we face significant challenges in dealing with this offensive from the right-wing government that seeks to satisfy the SD and secure its continued power. Many of us live in a difficult psychological situation, with constant worry about the future, especially with the increasing racist rhetoric and policies directly targeting foreigners.

Let us be a united voice against hatred and racism. Let us participate actively in political life and use our votes to build a better future for coming generations. The year 2026 must become the year of change, the year of justice, the year of equality. Let us work together for a Sweden that we all can be proud of.

We must stand up for each other, regardless of our background or beliefs. By strengthening our collective voice, we can ensure that Sweden remains a place where diversity and inclusion are values that are celebrated and protected. It is only through unity and solidarity that we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead.

Together we can create a future where multiculturalism and human rights are at the center. Let us make 2026 the year when we take a major step toward a more just and inclusive Sweden. Thank you for listening and for being part of this important change.
